  • MTHFR Gene Testing

    Price: $515/$495 Member

MTHFR testing checks for mutations in the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene, which plays a crucial role in processing folate and regulating homocysteine levels in the body. Mutations in this gene can impact how well your body metabolizes folic acid and other B vitamins, which can lead to elevated homocysteine—a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, hormonal imbalance, mood disorders, and even complications with fertility or pregnancy. Testing for MTHFR can provide valuable insights for individuals experiencing symptoms like chronic fatigue, anxiety or depression, migraines, hormonal issues, or those with a family history of heart disease or miscarriage. It’s especially important if you've struggled with unexplained health issues or are considering starting a family, as an undiagnosed MTHFR mutation can affect nutrient absorption and detoxification. Identifying this mutation allows for more personalized treatment, including targeted supplementation with bioavailable forms of folate and B vitamins, to support optimal health and prevent long-term complications.

HOW IT WORKS:

Patients have two convenient options for completing their lab work. Choose the option that best fits your needs:

OOption 1: Visit a Quest Diagnostics Location

Ensure Accurate Results

  • Some lab tests may require fasting for 8–12 hours prior to specimen collection. Please call the clinic to confirm whether fasting is necessary for your specific test.

  • Be sure to stay well-hydrated and continue taking your prescribed medications as directed.

  • If you are taking hormone supplements, we recommend doing so for approximately five days prior to your blood draw to help assess peak levels. For the most accurate results, hormone levels are best tested between 7:00 AM and 10:00 AM.
