Understanding Regenerative Medicine

General Information

  • Regenerative medicine is transforming the way patients think about recovery, performance, and healthy aging. Rather than simply masking symptoms, these advanced therapies are designed to work in harmony with your body’s own repair systems, supporting tissue health, resilience, and overall function. It is no surprise that interest in biologics has grown quickly among people who want to stay active, mobile, and vibrant at every stage of life.

  • Many patients pursue biologic therapy to enhance mobility, speed recovery, optimize performance, or invest in long term wellness. These treatments are minimally invasive and can often be integrated into a comprehensive plan tailored specifically to your needs. Your consultation allows us to evaluate your history, understand your goals, and determine whether regenerative options may be a good fit for you.

  • It is important to understand that most regenerative therapies, including stem cells and related biologics, are considered investigational. While regulated by the FDA, they are not approved to treat or cure most medical conditions. Individual responses vary, and specific outcomes cannot be guaranteed.
  • Biologics are products derived from living sources and may include options such as mesenchymal stem cells, exosomes, growth factors, and platelet rich plasma (PRP). What makes them exciting is the powerful communication signals they contain. Researchers believe these signals may help the body respond to stress or injury more efficiently and support a more balanced healing environment.

  • Safety and quality remain top priorities. Biologic products used in care undergo rigorous donor screening, laboratory processing, and testing. During your visit, your provider will carefully review potential risks, benefits, and alternatives so you feel confident and informed every step of the way.

  • If you are ready to explore innovative options that may support how you move, feel, and age, the next step is a personalized consultation. Our team will help you navigate what is available and design a strategy aligned with your body and your goals.

Stem Cells

Stem cells are unique because they are unspecialized cells with the ability to self-renew and develop into different types of tissue. In addition to this, they release signaling molecules that communicate with other cells. Rather than simply replacing tissue, much of their potential benefit is thought to come from encouraging the body’s own repair mechanisms.

Exosomes

Exosomes and other biologic products are also key players in cell-to-cell communication. They can be thought of as tiny messengers that carry proteins, growth factors, and other signals between cells.

Wharton’s Jelly

Wharton’s Jelly is the soft, cushioning connective tissue found within the umbilical cord. Its natural role is to protect and support the structures around it, and it is rich in components such as hyaluronic acid, collagen, and growth factors. Because of this makeup, it is often used to help provide a supportive framework and nourishing environment around tissues where the body is working to recover.

Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is created from a small sample of a patient’s own blood. Because platelets are involved in the body’s normal healing response, PRP is often used as a way to deliver a higher concentration of those supportive elements to a targeted area.

Frequently Asked Questions

Want more information? We've provided answers to some common inquiries below.

  • Where do the stem cells come from?

The mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) used in our treatments are derived from donated umbilical cord tissue collected during healthy, scheduled cesarean deliveries. Donors are carefully screened, and the tissue is processed by specialized laboratories to ensure high standards for quality, sterility, and cell viability.

  • How is safety addressed?

At our med spa, we specialize in treating a wide range of cosmetic concerns, including acne scars, bunny lines, crow's feet, double chin, forehead lines, frown lines, lip wrinkles, and marionette lines. Our skilled practitioners utilize advanced techniques and state-of-the-art technology to effectively address these concerns and restore a youthful, radiant appearance. With personalized treatment plans tailored to each client's unique needs, we are dedicated to helping individuals achieve smoother, more rejuvenated skin.

  • Is there a risk of rejection?

    • Umbilical cord–derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are known for having low immunogenicity, meaning they are unlikely to trigger a strong immune reaction when introduced into another person. One of the reasons for this is that these young cells express very low levels of the surface markers that the immune system typically uses to determine whether something is “self” or “foreign.”
    • Two of the most important identifiers involved in immune recognition are human leukocyte antigens (HLA), which are proteins found on the surface of many cells, and the major histocompatibility complex (MHC), the system that presents those proteins to the immune system. In organ transplantation, differences in HLA and MHC markers are what can lead the body to recognize tissue as foreign and attempt to reject it.
    • MSCs from umbilical cord tissue are biologically immature and show minimal expression of these markers. Because the HLA and MHC signals are limited, the likelihood of immune conflict with the recipient is considered very low. For this reason, donor-recipient matching is generally not required, and therapies using these cells typically do not involve immunosuppressive medications.
  • Are there side effects?

Some patients report temporary, mild flu-like symptoms such as fatigue or body aches after treatment. These responses are often associated with the body’s natural inflammatory and healing processes. Your provider will review potential risks and benefits with you during your consultation.

  • Is this FDA approved?

Stem cell therapies are not FDA approved for most indications. They are regulated, and their use is considered investigational. As with any medical treatment, results cannot be guaranteed. During your visit, we will discuss whether this option may be appropriate for your goals and review available alternatives.
